Summertime Memories

Many GTA parents cannot afford to send their kids to Summer Camp.

According to Active Healthy Kids Canada, children from the lowest income level are three times more likely to never have participated in organized activities and sports, compared with those in the highest income level. 

A June 2010 survey from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario showed that for 49% of parents affordability is the biggest challenge for GTA parents in making summer arrangements for their kids.

Send a Child to Camp Tropicana 2011

Each summer Camp Tropicana fosters healthy bodies and healthy minds and provides all the fun and learning that kids need over the summer break. In order to be accessible to low-income families we keep our camp fees as low as possible, charging parents just $20 per day, and $75 for a full week. However, it is still difficult for some families, particularly those with more than one child, to afford to send their child(ren) to camp.

Thanks to your generous donations, more children from low-income families can benefit from the experience of Camp Tropicana. Just $20 enables a child to attend for a day; $100 enables that child to attend for a week.

Sincere thanks to the BMO employees who helped to create magical memories for children in 2010 by giving $2,260.77 to help some of the 65 children to attend Camp Tropicana at St. Barnabus Catholic School. Thanks also to TELUS for donating 60 backpacks and back-to-school kits for the campers.
